MIRPUR (AJK): (Parliament Times) Pakistan National Heart Association (PANAH) President Major General (retd) Masood-ur-Rehman Kayani has said “we must all work together to make Pakistan healthy and strong. The main cause of dangerous diseases like heart and diabetes is smoking and use of sugary drinks. The government needs to legislate effectively , So that the future of the country can be secured”.
“He was talking to senior officers of the Pakistan Army, Army and Civil Medical Specialists and tobacco victims during a special ceremony held in the federal capital on Sunday”, media wing of PANAH said in a news release issued here on Monday.
The ceremony started with recitation of verses from the Holy Quran.
Addressing the participants, Maj. Gen. (retd) Masood-ur-Rehman Kayani said that the trend of smoking and consumption of sugary drinks is increasing rapidly among the young generation for which the Panah is raising awareness among the people so that they can avoid its harms. It is important that we make our citizens safe from heart disease, diabetes, obesity, cancer, respiratory and other complex diseases.
On the occasion, Sanaullah Ghumman, General Secretary Panah, said that millions of people are addicted to tobacco and sugary drinks and die every year, billions of rupees are spent on the treatment of the sick. If the young generation is to be saved from the use of tobacco and sugary drinks, the government will have to enact legislation to prevent the risk to human health, the guests were thanked at the end of the ceremony, the PR concluded.
