ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has conferred Nishan-e-Pakistan, its highest civilian award, to Syed Ali Geelani, 90, noted Kashmiri resistance leader.
The investiture ceremony for conferring award was held in Aiwan-e-Sadr here Friday. President Arif Alvi conferred Nishan-e-Pakistan to Syed Ali Geelani. The highest civil award of Pakistan was conferred on Syed Ali Geelani for his unwavering prolonged struggle in freedom movement for Kashmir. Hurraiyat leaders received award on behalf of Syed Ali Geelani.
Ali Geelani is the robust voice in the struggleagainst illegal occupation of occupied Kashmir by Indian troops.
He had parted ways with Hurriyat Conference (Mir Waiz group) in 2004 over the matter of talks with Indian leadership. Later he had formed a new party in the name of Tehrik-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir. Following the martyrdom of Burhan Wani in 2016, Hurriyat Conference, Gilani group, Mir Waiz groups and JKLF of Yasin Malik had forged an alliance in the name of Joint Resistance Leadership which was aimed at waging joint struggle against illegal Indian occupation.
He has authored a book entitled Iqbal Rooh-e-Din ka Shanasa.
