PFUJ condemns use of violence against Abassi

Islamabad,(Parliament Times):  Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has condemned the use of violence against Kashmiri journalist Ijaz Abbasi at the Press Information Department, allegedly by its director. PFUJ President Shahzada Zulfiqar and Secretary General Nasir Zaidi in a statement said that such incidents were the reason relations between the government and media remained bitter.

“Incidents like this must be criticised; Not only was Mr Abbasi beaten up by the director with the help of unknown persons, but an FIR based on fabricated allegations was lodged against him,” they said, adding that this was the first time that a director was allegedly involved in the use of brutality and abusive language against a journalist.

The PFUJ have demanded withdrawal of the FIR and stern action against PID Director Asim Khichi.
