MANANWALA: Asad Malik, former Pakistan hockey team Olympics captain has died in a traffic mishap while his daughter has been critically injured on Sharaqpur-Jaranwala road.
The incident took place near Sharaqpur road Faizpur interchange when a speedy car hit the motorcycle Asad Malik was riding. He died on the spot.
He was borne in Sheikhupura on October 30, 1941. He was part of Pakistan hockey team which won silver medal in Olympics games 1964, gold medal in Olympics games-1968 and silver medal in Olympics games-1972. He was gold-medalist twice of Asian games. He played world cup 1971. He was awarded presidential Tamgha-e-Husn-e-karkrdagi in recognition of meritorious services rendered by him in the field of hockey.
There were hockey Olympic champions in his family. They included Saeed Anwar Malik, Naeem Amjid Malik and Anjum Saeed Malik.
