Medical Emergency Response Center on highway goes operational

ZHOB: Medical Emergency Response Center (MERC) has commenced its services to provide emergency medical aid to the victims of road accidents on N-50 – the national highway connecting Balochistan with Khyber Pashtoonkhwa. In this connection a ceremony was organized by Peoples Primary Health Care Initiatives at MERC Badinzai, which was attended by representatives of non-governmental organizations and local dignitaries in a large number. Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Arif Kakar was the chief guest on the occasion.

District Support Manager PPHI Dr. Tariq Bukhari, ADSM Mujeeb-ur-Rehman and MERC Badinzai in-charge Abdul Razzaq while speaking the participants said that due to the personal interest and efforts of CEO PPHI-Balochistan Aziz Ahmad Jamali and Chief Operating Officer Rafiq Raisani like elsewhere in the country the rescue services have also been started in Balochistan. The facilities managed by PPHI have started operation on both Zhob-Quetta and Zhob-D.I Khan highways and attended several accidents in the last couple of days. The fully equipped emergency medical staff has been trained at Rescue Services Academy in Lahore.

“The eight-bed emergency center in Badinzai area has state-of-the-art medical equipments, oxygen facility, life-saving drugs, ambulance and round the clock medical staff. Its average response time is seven minutes”. The officials said.

They said that besides the traffic accidents, the center will also respond to emergencies like fire, natural calamities and other incidents. The staff can be called at toll free number 1122 round the clock. They said.

They further said that on emergency basis the center has been set up in containers, besides the construction of building a fire tender facility to extinguish fire would also be provided soon.

Highlighting the services of PPHI they said, the organization also facilitates all the basic health units (BHUs) in every nook and corner of the province.

AC Arif Kakar, BRSP Coordinators MCP Quttab Mandokhail, Ubaid Hariphal and Team Leader HDF Naeem Gul Mandokhail on the occasion said that rescue 1122 service meant to meet any emergency situation. They appreciated the initiative of PPHI and urged the area people to extend their full cooperation towards the rescue 1122 center. Meanwhile, the participants inspected various sections of the center and the rescuers also displayed a demonstration of their training and skills.
