MUTA Scholarship’ scheme launched for economically disadvantaged talented students

DADU. Mehran University Teachers’ Association (MUTA) launched a scholarship scheme in 2013 under the title ‘MUTA Scholarship’ in order to offer financial support to the economically disadvantaged talented students enrolled at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Sindh Pakistan. The scholarship amount is contributed by teaching faculty from the monthly salary of all the teachers which is deposited into a separate account used for scholarship purpose. MUTA has also formed a committee which looks into all the financial matters responsibly. Every year, the students are awarded with the MUTA Scholarship which is sufficient to pay the tuition fee. The number of needy students has increased since the launch of the scheme.

The scheme started with the meager amount of 50 rupees in 2013 and now it is 500 rupees per teacher which is contributed by all faculty members every month. Total amount of Rs. 2.5 million is accumulated each year to support the needy and talented students so that the deserving candidates could meet their academic expenditure smoothly without facing any difficulty in getting higher education. There is a formal procedure which is followed for the grant of scholarship that includes advertisement followed by face to face interviews The scholarship is awarded purely on need cum merit basis.

MUTA proudly announces that the MUTA Scholarship is the biggest scholarship by any teacher community in public sector universities in Pakistan in which teachers contribute 2.5 million each year to support the needy students across the country. In this global pandemic COVID-19 situation, MUTA has awarded the scholarship worth amount Rs 1.1 million to nearly 100 students of the university so that the students may not face any hurdle in paying their tuition fee to the university in these difficult times.

The Vice Chancellor MUET Jamshoro Prof Dr Muhammad Aslam Uqaili and the Students Financial Aid Office have also played very constructive role in the MUTA Scholarship. Prof Dr Tauha Hussain Ali, currently working as pro vice chancellor of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro ex-focal person of this office has played a visionary role besides Dr Asif Ali Shaikh – the convener, the MUTA president Dr Habibullah Pathan, General Secretary Dr Nasrullah Pirzada, current focal person of the Students’ Financial Aid office- Dr Aamir Mahmood Soomro and his staff.

All the faculty members of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology deserve much applause and appreciation for their efforts and generous contribution to run this scholarship scheme smoothly.

We feel proud to announce that MUTA Scholarship scheme is the biggest contribution by a teacher welfare organization based in the public sector university in the country for students in helping them overcome the financial challenges.

We are proud to mention that all the teachers of MUET are committed to support this scholarship in future as well by contributing more amount from their monthly salaries.
