ISLAMABAD: Accountability Court (AC) Islamabad has set June 26 for indictment of former president Asif Ali Zardari and others in Park Lane reference.
The date of park lane case has been changed on the request of NAB.
Former president Asif Ali Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur could not appear in the AC in fake accounts and mega money laundering cases Wednesday, therefore, they could not be indicted.
Judge Azam Khan of AC Islamabad heard the cases.
The accused could not be brought in the court in the wake of corona virus outbreak.
The plea was presented before AC seeking exemption for Asif Ali Zardari and Faryal Talpur from attendance in the court for one day.
Judge Azam Khan directed that social distancing norms be adhered to in the court room.
Farooq H Naik, counsel for Asif Zardari said “what can we do as the lawyers are in large number.
NAB prosecutor prayed the court references copies have been filed in the court, therefore, court should indict the accused persons. Arrangements have been made for recording video statements of Anwar Majid.
Farooq H Naik took the plea in the court corona virus has largely spread. The elder persons can be affected more than others by corona virus. . Asif Ali Zardari and Faryal Talpur ages are above 60 years. WHO has also said lock down be imposed.
Judge Azam Khan of AC said we record the video statements of those accused that cannot come.
Latif Khosa counsel for Anwar Majid took the stance in the court Anwar Majid cannot be indicted despite his video statement. The accused cannot be indicted unless he appears in the court.
NAB prosecutor said Anwar Majid attendance can be marked when court representative is there.
The court accepted the plea for exemption of Asif Ali Zardari and Faryal Talpur from attendance for one day.
Asif Ali Zardari and could not be indicted in Park Lane case due to his non appearance.
NAB prosecutor prayed the court all the formalities have been completed in Park Lane case therefore, the date for indictment of the accused be fixed soon so that trial could move ahead.
The court fixed June 26 for indictment of Asif Ali Zardari and others in Park Lane case.
Hearing of money laundering case was adjourned till July 27.
