ISLAMABAD: The government does not care about accountability and is only interested in assassinating the characters of PML-N leaders, said Ahsan Iqbal.
Iqbal, who was speaking to the media on Monday, said that he started projects worth billions of rupees while serving as the planning and development minister. “I challenge the government and NAB to prove a single penny of corruption against me,” he remarked.
The PML-N leader is being investigated by NAB in Narowal Sports City case. He is accused of causing losses worth billions to the national exchequer by initiating the Sports City project in his home constituency in 2009.
In April 2018, the Rs2.9 billion project was inaugurated by then president Mamnoon Hussain. NAB had launched an investigation into the matter the day it was inaugurated. The bureau said it had received a complaint of embezzlement.
Iqbal, who was appointed as the federal minister for planning in 2013, has rejected NAB’s allegations. He said that the total cost of the project was Rs2.9 billion, while Rs2.5 billion has been spent so far.
