RAWALPINDI: (Parliament Times) Youth icon and symbol of Kashmiri resistance movement Shaheed-e-Kashmir Ashfaq
Majeed Wani was a great leader who strived for the freedom of Kashmiri nation and sacrificed
himself for the righteous cause. This nation can never forget the struggle and services of this
great soul. This was stated by the JKLF acting chairman while recalling the struggle and
sacrifices of Shaheed-e-Kashmir Ashfaq Majeed Wani who embraced martyrdom on 3rd day of
Ramadhan in 1990. It is worth to mention that Shaheed Ashfaq Majeed embraced martyrdom
on third day of Ramadan as per his wish that he himself wrote in his dairy “I wish it is Friday and
I embrace martyrdom while fasting”. While recalling the great martyr, Abdul Hameed Butt said
that Ashfaq Majeed Wani was a born leader, a humble slave of Allah almighty and a true
warrior who followed truth and justice. He was a symbol of courage, fearlessness, passion, and
resistance against the injustice. He said that it was Ashfaq Majeed Wani’s gallant leadership in
1988 that gave courage to hundreds of young men to stand up for the cause of freedom of our
motherland. Ashfaq Majeed Wani led a people’s revolution in 1990 and changed the 5000 year
old history of Kashmir. It was his leadership that united a nation which was tagged as coward
and inactive, for the just cause of freedom and history bears a witness that thousands of young
Kashmiris followed Ashfaq Majeed Wani in this struggle. Acting chairman further said that
Shaheed-e-Kashmir was a practicing follower of Quran, a brave commander, a wise political
leader, a refined diplomat, a fiery speaker, a respected student and a great athlete. He said that
Ashfaq was a true successor of father of nation Mohammad Maqbool Bhat Shaheed who
endeavored hardships but never budged before the forces of falsehood and oppression. Butt
said that a freedom struggle that has been nourished by the sacred blood of martyrs like Ashfaq
Majeed Wani cannot be defeated by any military might like India and today on the martyrdom
day of this great son of soil we reiterate our pledge to take forward the sacred mission of these
great martyrs to its desired goal.
Following the footsteps of Baba-e-Qoam Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Quad-e-Tehreek
Amanullah Khan (Late), he along with his closest friend and incarcerated Chairman JKLF
Muhammad Yasin Malik took this solemn pledge to lead the nation in its national liberation
struggle, he said. Acting chairman Abdul Hameed Butt said that Ashaq’s martyrdom and the
continued struggle of his friend Yasin Malik speaks high about their commitment.
