Muzaffarabad: (Parliament Times) The government of Azad Kashmir has taken precautionary measures to prevent the spread of Corona-virus disease in the region. Section 144 has also been imposed whereas a ban on peoples’ gathering has been imposed in all districts of Azad Kashmir. Moreover, the gathering of more than one person in one room has also been banned – but in Central Jail Rara there were about 150 inmates locked in a single room with no medical facility.
Amidst of prevailing threat of corona-virus disease the jail mates were feeling highly insecure in the highly congested atomsphere where there is a serious risk of outbreak of the disease. Under the given circumstances the release of prisoners is being taken as a preventive measure by almost all countries. According to reports Iran has released one hundred seventy thousand prisoners whereas Pakistan, too, has released detainees to avoid outbreak of disease in prisons.
Prisoners in Muzaffarabad jail have given 48 hours ultimatum to the government demanding government to release all prisoners. Prisoners have threatened to go on hunger strike provided their demands were not fulfilled.
