The event arranged by Riaz Ahmad Shad Co-curricular Forum of the University was aimed at raising awareness against environmental pollution that not only has adversely affected the normal environmental processes but also caused global warming.

Motivating youth to play their role in making the environment clean and green was also a key objective of the seminar.

The Vice Chancellor Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad, Abdullah Nayyer Sheikh, Deputy Commissioner Sargodha, Muhammad Bilal, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Hussain Bahadur, DG Parks and Horticulture Authority Sargodha, faculty and staff, and volunteer students attended the seminar.

Addressing the seminar, the Vice Chancellor informed that Sargodha University had launched a plantation drive during which more than 5000 trees were planted at Sargodha Medical College. 5000 more trees will be planted in Sargodha Medical College and other associate colleges, he said.

Sargodha University was striving to reduce environmental impacts and promote sustainability by taking smart, safe, clean and green campus initiatives, the Vice Chancellor said, adding that the whole idea is to keep the surroundings clean, green and pollution-free, in addition to resist global warming and adverse effects of climate change.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Sargodha said the district administration is actively following the Clean and Green Program for ensuring pleasant environment, however, best results could be achieved by participating of every citizen in this program.

He urged for collective efforts and involvement of all segments of the society to support the Clean and Green Pakistan campaign. He asked the students to play their part in maintaining cleanliness not only in their houses but also in surroundings.

Additional Deputy Commissioner informed the seminar that a total of 27 projects were completed by the district administration in this regard, including safe drinking water, green belts, dust bins and parks. The administration is keen to promote awareness culture among masses through campaigns as public involvement is much important in making this campaign successful, he added.
