NEW YORK: Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mehmood Qureshi has arrived in New York on one day visit to meet UN leaders and later he will leave for Washington to hold meeting with US leadership.
It is pertinent to mention here that FM is undertaking visit of different countries under the directives of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan in support efforts for reduction of tension between US and Iran in Middle East.
As per report UN spokesperson “ Stephane Dujarric ‘ said during a press conference the Qureshi meeting with UN leaders has been arranged on the request of Pakistan mission and secretary general happily meet with visiting foreign ministers.
The functionaries at New York told the journalists Qureshi during his one day visit will meet UN Secretary General António Manuel de Oliveira Guterres and president General Assembly Tijjani Muhammad-Bande..
On the other hand it has been said in statement issued by Foreign Office (FO) that FM Shah Mehmood Qureshi will visit New York and Washington from January 15 to 17 and during his visit he will meet UN leadership including UN Secretary General, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, National Security Advisor Robert O’ Brien and other senior Administration officials
The Foreign Minister will also have meetings on the Capitol Hill, besides engagements with the media, think tank community and the Pakistani Diaspora.
Meetings with media, think tank and Pakistanis living in US are also part of his engagement. During his meetings in US , August, 05 unilateral Indian steps, alarming situation in Occupied Kashmir, Afghan peace process and other matters of mutual interest will figure in.
FM has already met with his Iranian counterpart and senior Saudi leadership during his recent visit and he had urged both the countries to exercise restraint.
Replying to a question about Kashmir UN spokesperson said US is in constant contact on this matter. We talked to both Pakistan and India. We have repeatedly said need is there to keep in view human rights at every cost in any political situation is in Kashmir.
