ZHOB: In order to control the skin ailment Cutaneous Leishmaniasis, the District Health department put in place measures following the recent cases of leishmaniasis and set up a two-day long free vaccination camp in far-off areas of the district.
The camp was set up by the health department in collaboration with Malaria Control Programme at Rural Health Center (RHC) Mani Khwa and Killi Ghorlama area.
In the supervision of DHO Dr. Fazal Din Sherani, the medical team comprising skin specialist Dr. Ismail Nasar, Assistant Raza Gul Kakar, Dr. Samiullah, lab assistant Saleem Shah, dispenser Hazrat Shah and medical technician Naseebullah vaccinated a large number of patients belonging to different parts of the district.
DHO Dr. Fazal Din Sherani while talking to this scribe told that setting up the camp was aimed at providing free of cost treatment and vaccination of patients infected by Leishmaniasis – a skin disease, caused by sand fly bite. He said dozens of patients have been vaccinated and treated against the skin ailment. Besides the treatment he said, the health department also making social mobilization to aware the people about the precautions to be adopted in their respective areas.
“The disease is locally known as ‘Kaldana’ that is transmitted by female sand-fly bite. The symptoms and signs of leishmaniasis are included ulcers of skin and in initial stage a pimple appears on the skin after the bite which grows with the passage of time and becomes very ugly because it persists for a long time. The ailment also has a social impact particularly when the lesions emerge on the face,” Dr. Fazal Din Sherani added.
He thanked Director Malaria Control Programme Dr. Khalid Qambrani for his generous support during the camp. Engineer Ghafoor Sherani, Yahya Sherani and Ilyas Sherani also facilitated the medical camp that continued for two days in hilly areas.
