Urges AJK govt to hold independent inquiry into the incident
Islamabad:(Parliament Times) President National Press Club (NPC) Mr. Shakeel Karar has strongly condemned the Mirpur Police authorities for naming senior journalist and chief editor daily Jammu and Kashmir Mr. Amir Memehboob in what he said as ‘a false and fabricated case’. Terming it as an act of harassment, the NPC president said that Mr. Mehboob who also president of All Kashmir News Papers Society was being harassed by the concerned SSP. Demanding immediate transfer of the said police officer involved in the harassment of senior journalist Mr. Karar urged the government of Azad Kashmir to initiate a judicial inquiry into the incident to bring real culprits to justice. The NPC president also expressed his serious concern over the step-motherly treatment being meted out to journalists in Muzaffarabad and Mirpur. Mr. Karar said that the incumbent government should take notice of the situation and initiate a prompt action against those responsible. “If the Azad Kashmir government failed to conduct a transparent inquiry against the incident in which police has been trying to involve Amir Mehboob then journalist community will react strongly”, he said.
