No one including judiciary is perfect: Justice Athar Minallah

ISLAMABAD:    Islamabad High Court (IHC) while accepting apology of Firdous Ashiq Awan special assistant to Prime Minister (PM) on information and federal minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan has withdrawn show cause notice in contempt of court case.

Chief Justice (CJ) IHC Athar Minallah took up for hearing contempt of court case against Firdous Ashiq Awan and Ghulam Sarwar Khan Monday.

Firdous Ashiq Awan and Ghulam Sarwar appeared in the court Monday.

CJ IHC remarked “ you both are holding responsible positions in state and are members of federal cabinet. I will praise one thing that they said their statement was political. I accept no one is perfect including judiciary.

CJ further remarked “ court was satisfied what you said came under the ambit of contempt of court. Despite it court is withdrawing its show cause notices in respect of contempt of court.

He further observed making the institutions controversial for the sake of politics is not correct. “ I expect you will boost the confidence of people on institution and avoid giving irresponsible statements. The courts don’t become upset by the criticism but they welcome it.

CJI IHC remarked “ it is expected that no opinion will be offered on sub-judice cases.

On withdrawal of show cause notices by the court, Shah Khawar counsel for Firdous Ashiq Awan said “ I am grateful to court for withdrawing show cause notice pertaining to contempt of court.

It is pertinent to mention here that Firdous Ashiq Awan was charged with influencing court’s proceedings.

She said in her reply “ I take back unconditionally remarks given by me regarding court and judges during my press conference on October 29. My press conference was not only meant for sub judice case of Nawaz Sharif. It is mentioned in the context of reply that what I said was not meant that court was giving special relief to Nawaz Sharif.

Ghulam Sarwar Khan while tendering unqualified apology had said he did not want to face the case.
