MUZAFFARABAD: (Parliament Times) In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the 14th anniversary to pay tributes and commemoration to the martyrs and victims of catastrophic earthquake 2005 was observed on Tuesday.
The day dawned with special prayers in mosques for the souls of the martyrs and prosperity of the country and early liberation of the occupied territory.
One minute silence was observed at all district headquarters at .8.54 am.
Quran Khwani, prayer ceremonies, documentaries show depicting events of miseries, pictorial exhibitions, awareness walks, candle vigils, seminars and speech contests were held in all ten districts of the state.
Functions and seminars were held all over the state to pay tributes to the Pakistan Armed Forces, people and government of Pakistan, international community and donor agencies for their unprecedented and generous contribution for relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction activities in the quake stricken areas of Azad Kashmir.
Main Prayer Ceremony was held at university ground here wherein Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan was chief guest on the occasion.
MQM-Pakistan Convener Dr. Farooq Sattar, Minister Disaster Management Authority Ahmed Raza Qadri, heads of the different institutions, heirs of the martyrs, civil society, students and people belonging to different walks of life attended the ceremony.
Prime Minister Farooq Haider laid floral wreath at the monument of the martyrs.
Chairman Central Zakkat Council Sahibzada Saleem Chishti offered fatiha for the higher ranks of the earthquake 2005 martyrs.
