RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Police on Monday announced to conduct operation against those who share pictures with arms on the social media and illicit arms holders.
According to Police spokesperson, the City Police Officer (CPO) Faisal Rana issued directions to conduct comprehensive Operations be conducted in the area where illicit arms are reported to make “Arms free Rawalpindi”. Moreover, legal action will be initiated against those who share pictures with arms on social media.
While chairing a departmental meeting, the CPO said that arms are the root cause of crimes and violation of law in the society and murder, robbery and other heinous crime will not occur if we manage to control illicit arms.
He added, the target of Rawalpindi Police is to make the City “arms free” and we will take all the possible steps for the purpose within the limits of law.
The CPO said that extraordinary picketing, monitored by a gazetted officer may be done on all the entry & exit points to check illegal arms.
During the meeting, the Superintendent of Police (SP) Saddar, Rai Mazhar Iqbal informed the CPO that an operation against illegal arms is continuing in Chauntra, during which, more than 55 klashnekovs and other imported weapons have been recovered, several cases registered and persons have been arrested.
Likewise, Sadar Beruni police arrested two persons and recovered an SMG and huge quantity of weapons.
Faisal Rana said, possession and display of arms has become a symbol of superiority in the society and we have to break this routine. Illegal arms are used for land grabbing and it also facilitates the land grabbers and the smugglers.
He maintained, it is a clear cut and crystal clear policy that, no one, who does not have official authority, can display a weapon either legal or illegal. Strict action will be taken against those, who display arms on the social media adding that weekly meetings will be held to Guage the progress in an operation against illicit arms and officers will be responsible in this regard.
