Karachi: Aafia Movement Pakistan leader and noted neurophysician of the country, Dr Fowzia Siddiqui has said that defense of Kashmir is the defense of Pakistan and if our ‘Aafias’ in Kashmir are not safe, so would be our Aafias in Pakistan.
Addressing a huge protest rally in front of the Karachi Press Club (KPC) here Sunday, she said that extremist government in India by changing the status of the occupied Kashmir has challenged the pride of whole Muslim Ummah. She said if today we did not wake up from our deep slumber, tomorrow the innocent women and children would not remain safe in Pakistan also. She said Kashmir, Palestine and Aafia Siddiqui are three huge challenges for the world conscience.
The demo was arranged to show solidarity with the brethren of occupied Kashmir and it was largely attended by citizens, right activists, political leaders and civil society.
Dr Fowzia said Kashmir is burning and we cannot sit silently. She said defending Kashmir is in fact defending Pakistan. He said the whole nation would fully support the Pakistan Army on the cause of Kashmir.
Mehfooz Yar Khan of MQM-P asked the United Nations and world community to stop ongoing genocide in the occupied Kashmir. He demanded the liberation of both Kashmir and Palestine.
Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) chief organizer Iqbal Hashmi said the United Nations and the world community should strongly condemn India for the genocide of Kashmiris. He said economic bans should be slapped on India and befitting steps should be taken to free Kashmiris from the clutches of Indian occupation army.
Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Karachi chapter president MPA Khuram Sher Zaman said whole nation supports the Kashmiri brethren. He said the nation would fight along with the Pakistan army whenever needed for the cause of Kashmir.
Jamaat-e-Islami leader and MMA MPA Syed Abdul Rasheed said the stance of Pakistani government on the issue of Kashmir is weak. He said the Kashmiris should be given the rights of plebiscite as per the resolutions of the United Nations. He said the Kashmiris have been fighting for decades with the occupation army of India. He said the sacrifices of the Kashmiris would not go vain.
Senior lawyer of the Supreme Court Javed Ahmed Chittari said Kashmir is a disputed territory and it could not be included in any country with change in some constitution. He said the actions and steps of India in the occupied Kashmir are open violations of the resolutions of the United Nations.
PDP leaders Abdul Hakim Quaid and Sardar Zufiqar, Intikhab Alam Suri of Human Rights Network, Ayaz Memon Motiwalla of Karachi Tajjir Alliance, Syed Faisal of Baitee Tanzeem, Muhammad Naeem Khan of Tehreek Naujwanan e Pakistan, Malik Ishtiaque of Muslim Students Organization, Prof Tanveer Malik of private schools association, Sabeen Memon of Joining Hands and other leaders also spoke.
