ZHOB: A large number of people with disabilities received artificial limbs and legs manufactured by Chal Foundation here in Zhob during a two-day camp organized by Balochistan Rural Support Programme under its European Union funded BRACE programme.
“BRSP with the financial support of EU under BRACE Programme aims to help Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in targeted districts including Zhob,” said Wazir Khan, Coordinator Disability Programme BRSP. He said that earlier BRSP had supported around six hundred PWDs under its Balochistan Community Development Programme.
“Financially supported by EU, BRACE Programme is a disability inclusive programme partnered with Chal Foundation. Thousands of PWDs are being supported with the assistive devices,” He said.
Identification and validation for the selection of most vulnerable PWDs are the initial two phases of the programme respectively. The identified and selected PWDs are being provided assistive devices including wheel chairs, tricycles and crutches, while hearing devices would soon be provided to those who direly need them.
“Following the provision of assistive devices, the programme will connect the beneficiaries with livelihood activities, so they could avail sustainable and dignified source of income for their families,” the programme head explained.
District Programme Manager BRSP Zhob Sher Hassan Barozai while talking to correspondent Rafiullah Mandokhail said that BRSP under its BRACE Programme is providing orthotic and prosthetic support to the people with disabilities after completing survey in all union councils of the district. People from every nook and corner of the district approach the recently held camps at BRSP office and other parts of the district.
“The survey conducted by BRSP revealed that a large number of PWDs exist in Zhob district in desperate need of assistive devices for their rehabilitation,” he said.
