QUETTA: Thousands male, female teachers from every nook and corner of Balochistan gathered here on Monday at the provincial capital Quetta to protest for the acceptance of their demands.
Amid sizzling heat the teaching staff carrying placards and banners gathered at Hockey chowk close to Chief Minister Balochistan house and chanted full throat slogans against the provincial government. Some teachers were stopped at Baleli check post and were not allowed to enter the provincial capital to participate in the sit in, however the ‘nation builders’ walked on foot and joined their protesting colleagues.
Following the five-day token hunger strike in all districts of the province the teachers’ protest entered in its third phase. In the first phase the teachers protested in front of district press clubs while in the second phase they set up a token hunger strike camps in all 32 districts of Balochistan till July 10th.
Balochistan Educational Employees Action Committee (BEEAC) comprises Government Teachers Association (GTA), Balochistan Professors and Lecturer Association (BPLA) and Senior Educational Staff Association (SESA).
The BEEAC leaders have said that the teachers across the province are united and determined for their due rights and they would continue their protest until the acceptance of their demands.
“The government attempts to deprive the teachers from their basic rights. The delaying tactics and red-tapism approach of the authorities cause unrest among the teachers community,” they lamented.
It is worth mentioning that connivance allowance, house requisition, teachers’ up gradation, removal of Education Act 2018, 50% promotion quota, BPLA research fund, higher education allowance, health insurance cards, regularization of contract-based teachers and provision of basic needs at educational institutions are the key demands of the teaching staff in Balochistan.
