Gilgit: (Parliament Times) USAID’s Pakistan Agricultural Technology Transfer Activity (PATTA) and the Gilgit Baltistan (GB) Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries recently signed a memorandum of understanding to bridge the gap between available technologies and local adoption.
USAID PATTA Chief of Party Jean Francois Guay and project team leads met Chief Minister of GB Hafiz Hafeez Ur Rehman, Director Agriculture Mehmood Asghar and Provincial Secretary Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Mir Waqar to collaboratively discuss agricultural technology needs and for scaling up the adoption in the province. USAID PATTA will work with the Agriculture Department to build provincial capacity so that current technologies are embraced widely as a result of field demonstrations and expos. In addition, the project will enhance the role of women in the province’s economic and agricultural development. The Chief Minister GB spoke about the limited availability of cultivable land and reiterated the need to mainstream the use of innovative and effective agricultural tools and practices to meet growing food requirements.
