Three-day National Book festival concludes at Pak China Centre

Islamabad: A three-day Annual National Book Mela 2019 concluded here at Pak-china Centre after entertaining hundreds of book lovers with number of literary activities.

The National Book Mela was organized by National History and Literary Heritage Division and National Book Foundation (NBF), in connection with the National Book Day to be observed on April 22.

The Book Mela was held in the supervision of Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Shafqat Mehmood, Secretary National History and Literary Heritage Division Eng. Aamir Hasan, Joint Secretary Syed Junaid Akhlaq and other senior officials also took part in various literary activities at Mela.

A large number of families, especially students thronged the Mela on daily basis and took part in different literary sessions on Ghazal, Novel, Short Stories, Afsana, Urdu Poetry.

The visitors took a round of the around 186 book stalls set up by private publishers, NBF, Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran, China Cultural Center in Pakistan, Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA), Directorate of Electronic Media and Publications (DEMP), National Highway and Motorway Police, Pakistan Post and Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL).

According to NBF officials thousands of books were purchased by the visitors during three-day Mela.

The book launching ceremonies, book reading sessions, Book Ambassador Conferences, book launching ceremonies, colorful students’ programs and literary sessions with renowned writers and scholars were organized at book Mela.

Special activities were also arranged for the children including art workshops, face painting, toys and children book stalls, Gogi show, Kids Republic and other attractions.

Managing Director, NBF, Dr. Inam-ul-Haq Javed said three-day Mela has received an over-whelming Mela has received an over-whelming response from the people specially students and families.

He said the National Book Mela was aimed to promote book reading culture among people especially culture among people especially youth. This year the event was celebrated under the theme “Kitab Teleemi Tarraqqi Ki Zamin (Book guarantees education development)”.

Eminent scholars and writers participated in various literary sessions including Kishwar Nahid, Iftikhar Arif, Dr. Tuasif Tabbassum, Dr. Fatima Hasan, Dr. Agha Nasir, Dr Nazir Tabbasum, Mehboob Zafar, Zahida Hina, Dr. Najia Arif, Mubin Mirza, Aqeel Abbas Jaffari, Rashid Noor, Salman Basit, Anwar Masood, Asghar Nadeem Syed, Dr. Wahid Ahmed, Fateh Muhammad Malik, Muhammad Hamid Shahid, Shamsul Mulk, Masood Mufti, Dr. Shahid Siddiqui, Dr. Abdul Basit, Prof. Maqsood Jafri, Sardar Khan Niazi, Mahmood Sham, Prof Ihsan Akbar, Dr. Sarfaraz Hussain Ansari, Masood Asher, Munir Badini, Prof. Dr. Ziaul qayum, Aksi Mufti, Saira Shahid, Abaseen yousafzai, Jalil Aali, Dr. Saeed Ahmed, Aisha Masood, Dr. Haroon-ur-Rashid Tabassum, Zulfiqar Cheema, Dr. Nadeem Shafiq Malik, Manzar Naqvi, Akhtar Usman, Hafeez Khan, Dr. Wajid Tabassum, Dr. Sadia Kamal, Farrukh Sohail Goendi, Dr. Ajmal Niazi, Sarfraz Shahid and many others.

Book readings sessions both in English and Urdu, Seminar on Kashmir Issue, CPEC Program, launching ceremonies of important books, Tribute to Allama Iqbal, Book Ambassadors Conference, Overseas Pakistanis program, International Mushahira, Lucky Book Draw, Persian and Chinese Program and other programs attracted the participants. The young writers and students taught about the new trends of literature.
