    Altaf Hamid Rao,

MIRPUR (AJK):    Azad Jammu & Kashmir Accountability Court No. 02 Mirpur Wednesday rejected the bail-after-arrest plea of the two senior officials of the Project Management Unit of a gigantic Rs. 7 billion Mirpur Greater Water Supply and Sewerage project of AJK Government including Executive Engineer / Deputy Director Raja Fareed Ahmed and Sub Divisional Officer Mubarik Ali, allegedly involved in corruption, malpractices and irregularities in the mega project.

The AJK Accountability Bureau had arrested both of the accused three months ago for allegedly indulging in corruption and tempering in the official record.

An AJK Accountability Bureau Spokesperson said on Wednesday that both of the accused including Executive Engineer / Deputy Director (time) Raja Fareed Ahmed and Sub Divisional Officer (time) Mubarik Ali, made the payment to the concerned contractor through mutual connivance and fake documentation despite non-working of construction work on the project – causing loss of crores of rupees to the public exchequer, the spokesperson added.

It may be added, according to the official spokesperson, an amount of Rs. 2.3 million was recovered from other arrested accused involved in corruption in the above project. Moreover legal proceeding is also underway against other accused involved in corruption in the mega project scam.

The spokesperson underlined that bail-after-arrest plea of the two accused was rejected by the Accountability Court as a result of effective pleading of the case on the part of the prosecution team of the AJK Accountability Bureau.

The accused allegedly exercised the corruption of crores of rupees in this Rs. Seven billion mega project of mass public welfare to meet the hygienic drinking water needs and a latest sewerage system in Mirpur city and adjoining hamlets, which was designed and approved in the wake of Mangla Dam raising project. Several of the persons allegedly involved in this big corruption scam, have so far been arrested by the AJK AB. Further investigations are in progress. Ends
