QUETTA: As many as 16 people have been killed and over 32 injured in a bomb blast at Sabzi Mandi of Hazarganji in Quetta.
The blast took place early hours on Friday. 8 among the killed belonged to Hazara community while one was FC official. The blast occurred when people were busy in shopping. The blast took place due to explosion in potato laden sack.
The rescue teams and security forces rushed to the scene and the bodies and injured were immediately shifted to civil hospital and Bollan Medical Complex forthwith.
Confirming blast DIG Quetta Abdul Razzaq Cheema said that laborers were loading potatoes sacks in truck when explosion occurred leaving 16 persons killed including one FC official. 32 persons sustained injuries in the blast.
Bomb disposal squad also reached the scene. The area has been cordoned off and search operation has been started.
Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan while strongly condemning the Quetta blast has directed that the injured should be provided every possible medical facility.
President Arif Alvi, speaker National Assembly Asad Qaisar, deputy speaker Qasim Khan Soori, chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjarani, state minister for interior Shehryar Afridi, chief minister Balochistan Jam Kamal, chief minister Punjab Usman Buzdar, chief minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah and other political leaders have condemned the blast in strongest terms.
