MUZAFFARABAD: (Parliament Times) The AJK minister for Industries and Women Development Mohtarma Noreen Arif said women proved their worth in civil services, judiciary, police and other departments of the State.
Addressing a function of women held in connection with International Women Day here on Tuesday she said we cannot make real progress without ensuring rights to mother, daughter, sister and wife. Women in AJK are playing great role in growth and development, she added. She said she came into politics after the death of her father.
She said women should get all those rights that Islam had granted to them. Women in Indian held Kashmir have been significantly contributing in the freedom struggle by taking to the roads in protest of Indian forces atrocities and human rights abuses.
She hinted at Fatima Jinnah who played great role along with founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
She paid tributes to women across the LoC who had been braving worst tyrannies. They sacrificed their children, youth and even elderly people and were raped and gang raped by the occupational forces to suppress the freedom struggle but they did not yield, she remarked.
She appreciated the efforts of two times Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto who played significant role in restoration of democracy in the country despite the fact that his father had been hanged.
Addressing the function Secretary Social Welfare and Women Development Kh. Muhammad Ahsan said his department was taking concrete measures for women’s rights and development. Our women were working side by side their men, he added. He said special centers had been set up for women in AJK. Incidents of domestic violence occur due to lack of education. He said government was taking measures to empower women and respect their rights.
Director Social Welfare and Women Development addressing on the occasion said role of women in development of the State was in no way less than men. She said literacy rate of women was pretty impressive it was why they were working in almost all the departments of the State. Her department was also taking measures to further empower women. Seminars and training course are held to create awareness among women, she stated.
