Islamabad: (Parliament Times) Student of DDNS from the University of Lahore organized one day awareness seminar on the diet and nutrition. During the Seminar awareness session conducted among the students.
Adequate nutrition is one of the important factor in influencing growth and immunity. A balanced diet must contain sufficient amounts of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and fibre in the required amounts. Each of these nutrients has a vital role in the all round growth and development of children. A deficiency of any of these nutrients will lead to an unhealthy child who is stunted and malnourished. As physical activity is very important for a child, kids who are physically active have better brain function and end to do better in schools than kids who are not. A balanced diet that contains all the food groups will ensure that your child has proper growth and development to stay healthy and disease free.
Under the supervision of society ‘dieticians and nutritionists association’ (DNA), President Malik M. Ibtasam Aslam we conducted Seminar in Bloomfield International school, with children of grades 1, 2 and 3. We had prepared some presentations, along with some informative animated stories and videos that we presented to them. After the presentations we did their nutritional assessment by checking their weights and heights. An average students were underweight according to their heights. We did their counseling to make them understand the concept of healthy eating. How important it is for them to drink milk, eat eggs fruits and vegetables for a better growth and body. We had made some apple shaped badges with ‘eat me’ written on them, so that they might attract the children towards eating fruits. They were very happy on getting those badges pinned on the top of their shirts. Finally, we gave them gifts that were nicely packed with a packet of milo and apple in them. We took some photographs with the children and their headmistress.
To our surprise those little children were quite aware of eating healthy foods and this credit goes to their teachers and headmistress for teaching them to eat healthy. We appreciated the staff of that school on their efforts.
If all the educational institutions give this much attention to the awareness of healthy eating among their students, this will definitely have a positive impact on the overall proportion of healthy individuals in our society.
