ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has given time to accused in Mukhtar Mai gang rape case to appoint legal counsel.
A 3-member bench of SC presided over by Justice Gulzar Ahamd Wednesday took up for hearing Mukhtar Mai review petition against the suspects acquittal.
Aitzaz Ahsan appeared on behalf of Mukhtar Mai.
At the inception of hearing Justice Gulzar Ahmad inquired where are the legal counsels of the suspects.
The accused replied that we were given notice the prior evening only and they could not hire counsels.
The accused told the court they have no money to appoint their counsel.
Justice Gulzar Ahmad remarked “we give you opportunity to appoint your counsel.
The court while directing the suspects to appear before it on next hearing with their lawyers adjourned the hearing of the case till March 27.
