LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued notice to NAB and federal government on the petition filed against placement of opposition Leader Shahbaz Sharif name in ECL.
NAB opposed Shahbaz Sharif petition.
A two members bench of LHC presided over by Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan took up the petition for hearing Monday.
Azam Nazir Tarar counsel for Shahbaz Sharif pointed out that ban on travelling abroad runs contrary to fundamental rights and no chance was given to present our stance before placing the name of his client on ECL.
He claimed that Shahbaz Sharif name was put on ECL unjustly and without any solid material. Putting the name on ECL is in conflict with the facts and law, he argued.
He told the court that Shahbaz Sharif is not only head of a political party but he is also opposition leader in National Assembly and he has to travel abroad.
The law officer opposed the petition raising the objection that federal government has been made respondent in the petition therefore, the petitioner should resort to Islamabad High Court.
The bench remarked that petition regarding the federation can be heard in any high court.
The law officer argued that Shahbaz Sharif has right to appeal in competent forum.
The counsel for Shahbaz Sharif prayed the court to declare null and void the February 21 step for placing name of his client on ECL.
The hearing of the case was adjourned till March 12.
