ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has issued orders for acquitting Behram alias Sufi Baba, handed death sentence on 52 counts and life term on 73 counts for want of evidence in the case pertaining to his involvement in preparing suicide bombers .
A 3-member bench of SC presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Asif Saeed Khan Khosa took up the case for hearing Friday.
During the hearing of the case CJP remarked Sufi Baba sends the people to paradise why he himself does not go to paradise. It is strange that there is no evidence against the person who prepares children for conducting suicide attacks. The accused was not present on the occasion of suicide attack. Police also provided no evidence in perspective of statement of the accused. Prosecution also provided no credible evidence against the accused.
Behram Khan was charged with preparing suicide bomber who had attacked Sakhi Sarwar shrine killing 52 people and injuring 73 persons.
The trial court had awarded death sentence to him for 52 counts and life imprisonment for 73 counts. The high court had also upheld trial court sentence.
The SC while giving benefit of doubt ordered to release the accused and disposed off the matter.
