Rulers should prefer national honor, dignity: Altaf Shakoor

Karachi: Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) President Altaf Shakoor has said that we will unite the nation and urge the rulers to uphold national honor and dignity. He said the rulers should keep the national honor and dignity supreme to all other considerations.

In a statement here Friday, he said that all district and city presidents of PDP will arrange special programs on March 2 on the occasion of the birthday of the daughter of the nation, Dr Aafia Siddiqui, who has been braving illegal foreign detention for last 16 years with courage and bravery and raise a strong voice for her early release.

PDP President said that before elections Prime Minister Imran Khan and the PTI had promised with nation for securing early release of Aafia Siddiqui, but six months have already passed to his government, but still he is silent on this issue. He said the nation asks if the Prime Minister Imran Khan has forgotten his promise. He said the ministry of external affairs has done nothing saving issuing a few statements on the matter of Aafia Siddiqui detention. He said the sister of Aafia, Dr Fowzia was asked to wait for a few days, but four months have already passed but no development is seen as yet.

He said it seems that the government of Imran Khan is also following the suit of the governments of Asif Zardari and Mian Nawaz Sharif on the issue of Aafia Siddiqui. He said that the family of Aafia has not talked to her phone for a long time.

Altaf Shakoor instructed the PDP district and city presidents to arrange special programs at press clubs and other public places on the occasion of Dr Aafia Siddiqui birthday on March 02. He said on the appeal of Dr Fowzia Siddiqui such activities should be started in whole country and this issue be highlighted with the help of mainstream and print media.

However, PDP chalked out the programs to celebrate the birthday of Dr Aafia Siddiqui in a befitting manner.
