RAWALPINDI: Governor Punjab has accorded approval to release first installment of funds for supply of water from Chahan dam to 6 new Union Councils (UCs). These 6 UCs have been shifted under the administrative control of WASA Rawalpindi. The WASA Rawalpindi has been directed to review operational and repair cost of the project. 6 million gallons water per day will be supplied from Chahan dam located on Chakri dam to 152000 residents of UCs including Kalial, Dhamial, Dhaman Syedan, Chak Jalal Din, Lakhan and Girja. Installation of filtration plant near Chahan dam , laying of water pipelines for water supply to union councils and purchase of land will cost about 5.4 billion rupees. 125 kanal land will be purchased for laying pipelines. The project will be completed within the next 3 years. Governor Punjab has released first installment of funds amounting to Rs 5399556 with the directives that operational and repairs cost of this project be reviewed and cost be curtailed.
