Islamabad : Minister of Petroleum Sarwar Khan on Tuesday said that there was no load shedding of gas in the country but low gas pressure in some areas causes inconvenience for people.
Regarding Baluchistan, he said the production of gas in Baluchistan was 28 per cent while usage 15 per cent. He said the government has decided to supply LPG mixed gas to the far-flung areas so that the residents can be brought out of troubles.
He revealed that as many as 13 per cent gas were being stolen from the system which causes losses worth Rs26 billion annually. The minister said low quality pipeline is another factor of low gas pressure in far-flung areas and the government was putting efforts to bring solution of that problem.
High demand and narrow pipelines’ was a major factor of low gas pressure. Sarwar Khan said this while responding to the point of interest at the National Assembly on Tuesday.
Earlier Agha Hassan Baloch, Muhammad Hashim, and Munawra Bibi had expressed reservations over low gas pressure in Mastong, Kalat, Noshki and Quetta.
The federal minister said the government will take strict legal action against the officials found involved in the gas theft incidents. He informed the session that the government had registered cases against gas thieves.
He also added the size of the gas pipeline has been increased and mega size compresses have been installed to solve the problem of low gas pressure. He further said the low gas pressure is not only the problem of the people of Baluchistan but other provinces residents have also been facing the low gas pressure issue.
Sarwar said the government has replaced 12 inch pipeline with 8 inch old pipeline and 12 inch pipeline with 24 inch pipeline.
Responding to a question of Agha Hassan Baloch, he said gas thieves have also been identified and local residents should also complaint against gas theft.
Responding Bibi’s question, he said it is our bed luck that gas is being theft in our country. He said the gas companies have been directed to control gas theft in their respective areas.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said the officials of sui-southern gas companies are allegedly involved in gas theft practices, adding they give illegal gas connection while taking bribe.
