    KHCPL awards engineering scholarships to 15 students

    Muzaffarabad: (Parliament Times) Kohala Hydro Company Private Limited has awarded fifteen Engineering Scholarships to students from affected areas of its projects. In a ceremony that was held at Muzaffarabad Kohala Hydro Company Office, the scholarship award certificates were distributed to students belonging to affected families of the project. Director General Environment Protection Agency Raja Razaq, Secretary Board of Revenue Mr Sohail Azam were the guests for the event who distributed scholarship awards to students selected. While addressing the audience,Mr. Zhang Jun CEO Kohala Hydro Company Private Limited highlighted that despite of various efforts at all levels, the Kohala Hydropower Project has faced constraints. The CTG headquarter was reluctant to make any investment until the smooth progress of the project. But finally it was greed to give scholarships to 15 more students this year exhibiting goodwill gesture to potentially affected families of the project. Similarly last year during 2017 the company had already given 18 scholarships to the potential students from project effected families and they are currently studying at University of Punjab.As a matter of fact, the CTG scholarship programme was not demanded by government of AJK .But the company has started this initiative that is solely on voluntarily basis to extend maximum benefits to communities in the project corridor, contribute in the social development and strengthening of PAK-China everlasting friendship. This should be noted that Kohala Hydropower Project has yet not started, still the company is offering best for the communities in the project area. Mr. Zhang Jun further highlighted that if the project activities are moved smoothly then CTG will consider to award similar scholarships to 70 to 80 more students from project affectedareas during coming four to five years. He emphasized that Kohala Hydro Company will continue to present program for social uplift and welfare with passage of time but to achieve goal of common interest there is dire need of cooperation from all stakeholders of the project. At the end he congratulate all scholarship holders who have been selected after a compressive process of selection including scrutiny of being project affected and interviews.
    The Kohala Hydro Power Project that is under construction will greatly improve the status quo of energy shortage in Pakistan and further drive the economic and social development in the region. Being responsible corporate entity, is devoted to play pivotal role in public welfare in Pakistan. Due to construction of Kohala hydropower project, the local families will be relocated. Fulfilling is corporate social responsibility the company is providing scholarships to students from these affected families. Under this scholarship programme the students from affected families will study 2+ 2 Co-educational Electrical Engineering at faculty of engineering and technology at University of Punjab for two years and two year at Jiangxi University of Science and Technology at China.
    Mr. Raja Razaque Director General EPA and Mr. Sohail Azam Secretary Board of Revenue expressed their gratitude and appreciated initiative taken by the project companies to provide outstanding education opportunities to the project affected families in AJK. The advised students selected to work hard and prove their-selves in the field of engineering so that after completing their education from China they may become able to play pivotal role in development of their state especially in the field of energy development. The students and the parents also expressed their sentiments narrating that they were quite happy with the steps taken by the company to secure their future for investing in education is the real and long lasting investment. Overall such initiatives are well appreciated by the all stakeholders in AJK.
