Islamabad : Prime Minister Imran Khan while directing the government departments to release overdue amount to media houses against the official advertisements were published.
Talking to media persons on Monday, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said the government is well aware of the problems facing by media organizations and journalists. All due payments of media houses will soon be released. He said journalists will not be left unemployed.
The information minister said the previous government used advertisement for its personal fame whereas the current government will grant ads to media houses on merit. He said that the prime minister has directed all government departments to release dues of all media houses immediately.
The primer directed the departments after growing unemployment of journalist and financial issues of media houses. He, however, yet directed release of their due remittances. He said government control on government advertisement is being end and after that all advertisement will be granted to media houses on merit.
He said the previous government has used public ads for its personal popularity due to which financial crisis had happened in the media industry.
The information minister said the PTI government had promised for granting jobs not to let them unemployed whereas journalists have been unemployed here. The decision has been taken to prevent labour class of journalists from unemployment.
He said during their meeting with the prime minister, media houses owners had told Imran Khan that they had over Rs8 billion remittances towards the government due to which running media houses has become difficult for them.
However, when the prime minister checked the details, only Rs1.5 billion remittances were qualified and the rest were all controversial.
