Islamabad: Chairman Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights declared the issue of missing persons as highly sensitive and sought report regarding custody centers in four provinces on Monday.
Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar chairing the Committee meeting sought reports of missing persons from all the provinces.
Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari and officials of Ministry of interior were also present in the meeting.
The agenda of the meeting was missing persons and issue of ban on Non-governmental organizations.
Chairman committee expressed apprehensions on non compliance from Ministry of interior regarding Justice Kamal Mansoor and Justice Noor Muhammad reports.
He said that the senate committee would like to visit all the custody centers to monitor the arrangements for prisoners.
Minister for Human Rights apprised the committee members that Pakistan is signatory of International Declarations on missing persons, while also has reservations on three important issues.
She said that there is no ban on Non-governmental organizations, only some NGOs have not fulfilled the set procedure, so they are stopped to work in Pakistan.
Ministry of Interior officials informed the committee that overall 74 NGOs are working in Pakistan, only 27 were stopped to work due.
Shireen Mazari informed that some NGOs were involved in illegal activities, about their activities can be briefed in in-camera session.
