ISLAMABAD: Senate standing committee on interior has directed that name of senior official of NADRA who has ordered for shutting RTS system on general election day be presented before it within 3 days.
The committee while rejecting the recommendation for suspension of NADRA chairman and two other officers owing to failure of RTS System has remarked no officer should be removed from his office unless the probe into this matter is completed and responsibility is fixed.
The committee has recommended to punish under election act the presiding officers who have failed to comply with the orders of election commission.
The committee met on Friday under its chairman Senator Rehman Malik in parliament house. Senator Javed Abbasi, Senator Chaudhry Tanvir, senator Attique Sheikh, senator Azam Swati, chairman NADRA and officers of election commission attended the meeting.
Giving briefing to the committee senator Rehman Malik said committee has completed about 80 percent probe into irregularities committed during election. Committee on election rigging has filed 3 reports in Senate house so far. Committee is satisfied that parliamentary committee has been constituted to probe into rigging during election. Our committee will extend full cooperation to parliamentary committee.
Chairman Committee inquired from Election Commission officials results were coming through RTS System and the orders were issued to shut the system at 11.45 pm all of a sudden.
He directed that the name of the election office officer who had issued orders to shut the RTS system be presented before the committee.
Election commission authorities said that forensic inquiry in respect of audio tapes will be conducted and report will be submitted to committee.
A member of committee proposed that a committee comprising international experts be constituted on the matter of failure of RTS system.
