SARGODHA: Participants of a walk held at the University of Sargodha in connection with the International Peace Day 2018 stressed that Islam is the religion of peace as it teaches unity, harmony, brotherhood and tolerance in the society.
The walk was arranged by Department of Islamic Studies, UoS. Chairman Department of Islamic Studies Dr Feroz Uddin Shah led the walk while a number of faculty members, staffers and students, carrying placards and posters with peace-promoting slogans, attended the walk to spread the message of peace and harmony.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Feroz said that learning and spreading the true spirits of Islamic teachings is the best way to deal with growing extremism and intolerance in society and to encourage the youth towards positive and constructive activities. He said that injustice, poverty, ignorance, aggression hatred and prejudices are main hurdles in maintenance of peace and by ridding the society of these negative features, a safe and peaceful future for next generations can be ensured, he added.
He was of the opinion that to minimize the difference laying in our society, we need to develop a culture of dialogue because inter-societal conflicts and dissimilarities can only be overcome through mutual interactions and discussions.
The participants of the walk stressed that all youth, men, women, civil society and state institutions need to work together for peace building in the country as Pakistan is a peace-loving country and it has rendered invaluable sacrifices for maintenance of peace in the world
