S. A Haidri,
Muzaffarabad: Young Engineers in Azad Jammu and Kashmir demanded the Government of the State to take stern notice on expiry of federal quota besides provision of employment opportunities to degree holder engineers in both public and private sector otherwise they will burn their degrees in front of PM Secretariat.
While addressing a press conference here on other day, young engineers of different program courses reiterated that an application signed by 62 engineers have been delivered to Prime Minister AJK demanding establishment of new employment opportunities in addition of other issues being faced by Engineers in AJK.
Speaking on the occasion, a young civil engineer Usman Mir said that it is essential to recruit relevant persons in technical departments rather than non-technical recruitments on favoritism and nepotism.
He said, “We are educated persons and the last option for us to sit in front of Prime Minister Secretariat and beg for employment if PM agrees on that, moreover, it also indicates that public sector departments do not engineers. We will call all engineers working in public sector departments to join us eventually as government departments do not need engineers in their departments.”
“We have documented evidence on each and every diploma holder sub-engineer, prerogative of sub-engineers is only 15 to 20 percent, and however, more than 65 percent sub-engineers are present either in public or private sector, we are now enlisting their names” Mir maintained.
Quoting an example of a case pursued in service tribunal AJK, he said there are many diploma holders who were present on their jobs while at the same time they were also present in different institutions of Pakistan for their course completion.
“How is it possible that if I become SDO while my degree is in process at the same time?” he asked.
They demanded chairman service tribunal to announce the verdict soon and Chief Justice AJK to combine all hearings of engineering posts that are awaiting in different courts as many young engineers are still deprived to attain better place in different departments.
Another electrical engineer Noor Awan said that we are representing engineering community and we are here to highlight our issues, saying that incumbent government in AJK should conduct a survey that how many engineers are un-employed in the State and how many are being employed by the State government besides apprising other issues being faced by Young Engineers to concerned authorities.
“Our parents had a hard time during our studies by paying immense fees and other expenses and when we construed their dream to become an engineer, we are still un-employed” Awan lamented.
He uttered that government of AJK do not accept any challenge of Policy making and in result, enormous increase in un-employment is being observed.
“Engineers and doctors are considered the cream of any society and if the cream of the society suffers, who else will be facilitated?” Awan asked.
He maintained that Govt. of AJK did not introduce any human resource policy in the past two years despite of having double development budget, expenses of many departments have been increased from millions to billions but still the number of employees in these departments is same as before.
He reiterated that no one knows that who and how many staffers have been hired for Neelum Jehlum hydro Power Project, adding that all hiring in mega-projects being done in other cities of Pakistan and none of single international company have their head office in AJK.
Noor quoted example of Suki Kinari and Dhasu Power Projects that local hiring’s were preferred in these projects as mentioned in their hiring policy, while same companies working on different projects in AJK but no any policy has been set by incumbent government for these projects.
Young engineers demanded Prime Minister AJK, Chief Secretary AJK and Chief Justice AJK to take stern action on employment issues being faced by young engineers. They stated that if Prime Minister and Chief Secretary do not take any stern action in a month then they will protest and burn their degrees in front of Prime Minister Secretariat.
