Muzaffarabad: (Parliament Times) President Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Masood Khan has said that the current Government was determined towards establishing well-equipped health facilities and especially focusing on providing the best possible health facilities to people in the most remote and far-flung areas of Azad Kashmir.
The President made these remarks while addressing the closing ceremony of the 5th Annual Medical Symposium held at the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Medical College, Muzaffarabad.
The President while addressing the event, felicitated the faculty, students and the organizers for successfully holding this symposium here at the State capital of Muzaffarabad. He also expressed his satisfaction that renowned physicians, surgeons, medical practitioners, academicians and medical students from all over Pakistan attended this two-day Symposium. He thanked the professionals for their participation and delivering their lectures for the benefit of the students and participants.
The President praised Prof. Dr. Sarosh Majeed Salaria, Principal AJK Medical College; and Dr. Khalid Awan, Chairman Organising Committee, for taking the lead and organising such an important academic symposium here in Muzaffarabad. He said that the Principal along with his able faculty is helping promote a culture of innovation and research for the medical students. He acknowledged the fact that numerous research papers of the students have been presented in this symposium and some even published in credible international medical journals.
The President said that committed efforts are being made to bring our universities and colleges at par with national and regional institutions. He added that AJK Medical Colleges have achieved a major milestone by being affiliated with the University of Health Sciences, thereby making our medical degrees competitive with the degrees being granted by other medical colleges of Pakistan.
Underscoring the importance of social responsibility, the President said that as doctors they must prioritise serving the people of AJK and Pakistan with professionalism and utmost empathy and dignity. He said that we are in dire need of committed medical practitioners and specialists to cater to the growing demand of patients and also tackle the challenge of communicable and non-communicable diseases.
President Masood Khan said that the present Government is taking constructive efforts in providing universal access to health by improving health facilities in the whole of AJK. He said the AJK Government will eliminate ghost doctors, nurses and will also strive to launch telemedicine services in a hope to provide the best consulting services for the people.
President AJK while addressing the students said that being global citizens in this age of connectivity. they must reach out to their peers and the global civil society in highlighting the plight of their Kashmiri brothers and sisters in Indian Occupied Kashmir in order to sensitise them of the gross human rights violations taking place at the hands of the Indian occupation forces.
The ceremony was attended by Brigadier Dr. Hassan Iqbal, Commandant CMH, Muzaffarabad; medical practitioner and academicians, faculty members and a large number of young doctors and medical students.
