SC orders NAB to provide details of Nandipur scam

Islamabad: The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to provide complete details pertaining to alleged corruption in the Nandipur Power Project.
The project has been a victim of delays since the time of NAB former chairman Qamar Zaman. A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, heard the case.
As hearing started, the NAB procurator informed the top court that the investigation into Nandipur Power Project is pending. Upon which, the chief justice sought how long the investigation is pending, directing the procurator to provide details of references pending in the NAB accountability court.
The NAB procurator informed the court that the investigation had been initiated on February 20, 2017. The ministry of interior was a reason for two years delay in completion of investigation. He further informed the top court judges that investigation against outsourcing of Nandipur project was initiated in June 2018.
The chief justice remarked how many witnesses have recorded their statements so far, adding slow process of investigation would not be workable. The NAB prosecutor further informed the court that the power project was initiated in January 2016.
The chief justice directed the prosecutor to provide names of the board of directors of this project. He responded Ali Asghar Qureshi is the chief executive officer of the project. The chief justice remarked the NAB should make references where there is need otherwise it has no authority to harass people.
Justice Umar Ata Bandial remarked that the relevant ministry had dispatched the issue for NAB consultation in 2012. The chief justice remarked the NAB has taken years to investigate the scam but did nothing, adding no one knows how much more time it will buy.
Justice Ijazul Ahsan remarked that the NAB becomes actives as the court takes notice. The chief justice remarked why not former NAB chairman be summoned to seek explanations.
