ISLAMABAD: Russian Ambassador to Pakistan, Alexey Dedov thanked Pakistani authorities on behalf of the Russian government for rescuing the Russian mountaineer Alexander Gukov stranded in a northern peak.
Alexander Gukov, 42, was trapped on Latok I in the Karakoram Range in Pakistan. Seven efforts to airlift him had failed because of the extreme altitude and weather. His partner, Sergey Glazunov, 26, a fellow Russian, had fallen on Wednesday last week as the pair descended from near the summit after being caught in bad weather.
Russian Ambassador while addressing a seminar said that the bilateral relations between Pakistan and Russia witnessed many ups and downs but now situations is getting better. He said Russia wants peace in Afghanistan and support dialogue with all stakeholders in this regard.
He further stated that Russia respects sacrifices of Pakistani institutions and nation against war on terror.
