ISLAMABAD: Contempt of court case verdict against PML-N leader Talal Chaudhry will be announced today (Thursday).
A 3-member bench of Supreme Court (SC) had reserved the judgment of contempt of court case on July 11.
The court had also ordered the accused to ensure his presence on the day the verdict would be announced.
The counsel for the former state minister had requested the court to announce the judgment after election-2018.
Justice Gulzar Ahmad had remarked decision would be announced at proper time. At present no date is being given for announcement of judgment.
Kamran Murtaza counsel for the accused said during the course of hearing that judicial proceedings had not been started as per procedure. Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) can not take notice of contempt of court in his individual capacity.
Justice Gulzar Ahmad remarked notice is taken on the note of SC registrar. After taking the notice the CJP fixes the matter for hearing in the court.
Counsel for Talal Chaudhry said there should be judicial rather than administrative order in connection with contempt of court notice. While article 19 of the constitution allows freedom of expression to every citizen.
Justice Sardar Tariq remarked article 19 does not mean you can speak out what you will. There is difference between freedom of expression and abusing.
Justice Gulzar Ahmad remarked “ Talal Chaudhry accepted his words in the court.
Counsel for Talal Chaudhry said Imran Khan and Tahir ul Qadri did not tender apology in contempt of court case.
Justice Faisal Arab inquired if the people don’t refrain even after so much restraint then what we can do.
Talal Chaudhry said he read charge sheet and understood it.
The defense lawyer said the accused is darling of court. Every benefit in the case should be given to accused. If court forgives him then it will not become small. Talal Chaudhry can not even think of committing contempt of court. His speech was broadcast out of context.
Justice Sardar Tariq said explaining out of context was duty of Talal Chaudhry.
The court had reserved judgment after hearing the arguments of counsel for Talal Chaudhry.
