RAWALPINDI: Election Commission (EC) notification on postponement of election in NA-60 Rawalpindi following the conviction and arrest of Hanif Abbasi, a PML-N candidate from this constituency has been challenged in High Court (HC). Sheikh Rashid candidate for National Assembly seat in NA-60 has filed petition through Sardar Abdul Razaq advocate in Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench taking the plea election cannot be postponed in case of conviction of a candidate by the court. Why should voters suffer the consequences if a candidate is convicted and sentenced by a court. Citing to constituencies of Maryam Nawaz and Capt (Retd) Safdar that the election in their respective constituencies have not been postponed after their conviction then why the election in the constituency of Hanif Abbasi has been postponed, the petitioner contended. Sheikh Rashid has made election commission and returning officer respondents in his petition. Sheikh Rashid and Hanif Abbasi were two rival candidates in NA-60 and due to conviction of Hanif Abbasi the election has been postponed by election commission in this constituency.
