Closing Ceremony for NUST-PPL Outreach Programme 2018 held in Islamabad

Islamabad: (Parliament Times) The closing ceremony of NUST Outreach Programme 2018 for students from FATA was held here on Wednesday. Lt. Gen Nazir Ahmad Butt HI(M), Commander 11 Corps, graced the occasion as chief guest. The 4-week programme, held in collaboration with Pakistan Army and Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), was aimed at supplementing the education level of selected students from the remote areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa so that they could get prepared for university level entrance requirements. As many as 153 intermediate level students from KPK benefitted from the programme, held from June 21 to July 20.
Speaking at the occasion, the chief guest apprised the audience of initiatives taken by Pak Army for the development of FATA, now part of KPK, particularly in the education sector. He said that the outreach programme would go a long way in uplift of the region by bringing talented students from underprivileged areas into the mainstream of education. He also announced a grant of Rs. 5 Million to support education of qualifying students at NUST, to make sure that they do not have to forego education for want of financial resources. He said that every effort would be made to expand the scope and magnitude of the programme, adding that over 500 students from the region would be considered next year under the programme.
Earlier, Pro-Rector Academics NUST, Air Vice Marshal Dr Asif Raza (Retd), said that the outreach programme has been supplemented by doubling the student enrolment this year and further improvements would be considered next year. He also explained the opportunities available at NUST. The audience were informed that NUST was the No. 1 Engineering & Technology university of the country and offered quality education at affordable cost with adequate need-based scholarship opportunities for deserving students. He also announced that a special NUST Entry Test would be held for the graduates of KPK outreach 2018 in Peshawar on July 20, 2018. The students were encouraged to make best use of the opportunity.
In his remarks, Brig Furqan from PPL said that their organisation is committed to supporting education in the underprivileged areas of Pakistan, and spoke about PPL’s partnership with NUST for KPK and Balochistan outreach.
