Islamabad: Discriminatory treatment is allowed legally with prisoners in all the prisons of Punjab.
Previous government neither amended nor eliminated such discriminatory laws, which were made pre partition .
Resulting which all the jails have luxurious facilities for influential and rich criminals, and poor are treated miserably.
Such colonial and discriminatory laws include Jail Act 1984, Punjab Borstal Act 1926, Good Conduct of Prisoners Act 1926 and Jail Law 1978, in all these four laws the prisons have been classified in different classes, and each class is given facilities according to the above laws.
According to Jail Manual a graduate prisoner or a prisoner who owns 50 acres of canal-irrigated land is entitled to have super class facilities.
And the prisoners who are substantial income tax payer, is also entitled for the better facilities.
The influential class or guilty of huge embezzlement but they are made to be entitled for better facilities.
Whereas a poor prisoner in theft case a cow or buffalos are subjected to the poor facilities.
Pakistani jails have capacity of 46705 prisoners, while 80169 prisoners accommodated in a miserable conditions, which is totally inhuman.
