Lahore: The Supreme Court (SC) has set aside Election Tribunal decision against former Minister for Railways, Khawaja Saad Rafique pertaining to alleged rigging in NA 125, in the general elections of 2013.
The SC approved an appeal filed by Saad Rafique and nullified the Election Tribunal’s verdict in connection with his disqualification.
In the General Elections of 2013 Saad Rafique had scored a victory however, the results were challenged in Election Tribunal by Hamid Khan of Pakistan Tehreek E Insaf.
The Election Tribunal in 2015 annulled the elections results on election petition filed by Hamid Khan and ordered to conduct by-elections. However Saad Rafique challenged Judge Election Tribunal Javed Rashid Mehboobi’s decision in the SC.
A two member bench of SC Lahore Registry headed by Azmat Saeed Sheikh on Thursday approved his plea and set aside the election tribunal decision. This way Saad Rafique stands acquitted from allegations of polls rigging.
