Muzaffarabad: (Parliament Times) President Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Masood Khan, has said that concrete steps will be taken to promote a culture of research and innovation in the public universities of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, making them centres of academic excellence in the region.
The President made these remarks during a meeting with Prof. Dr. Kaleem Abassi, who called on the President here at the President House.
During the meeting, the Vice Chancellor briefed the President – who is also Chancellor AJK Public Sector Universities – on various matters relating to the University academic and administrative affairs. He also informed the President of the progress on the King Abdullah campus being constructed at Chattar Kallas.
President Masood Khan expressed his satisfaction on the ongoing progress and urged that students be provided modern academic facilities, including state of the art laboratories and allied equipment. He highlighted the need to promote research-oriented academic activities focusing on encouraging innovation and inquisitive thinking.
The President also emphasized to speedily move with the introduction of new disciplines at the University and take the requisite steps for initiating degree classes for Mass Communication, International Relations (IR) and Tourism. He said that tourism in AJK has massive potential and bringing in professionals to this industry will help establish it as a full-fledged industry.
The Vice Chancellor also apprised the President of progress on the Neelum sub-campus of the UAJK. The President advised making the Neelum sub-campus fully functional and ready for the coming academic year.
President Masood Khan said that upholding merit will be our foremost priority for all recruitments, promotions and admission in the public sector universities of AJK.
“By upholding merit and aiming for academic excellence, we will be able to bring our universities up to par with other leading and prestigious universities of the country and region”, said the President.
