World Cup: Jamie Vardy a doubt for quarter-final after groin injury prevented him taking penalty

MOSCOW: Jamie Vardy is a doubt for the World Cup quarter-final after picking up a groin injury in the shootout win over Colombia, according to reports.
The Leicester striker was expected to take a penalty in the shootout win, but Eric Dier had to step up in his place.
Vardy has had an injection in his groin immediately after the game to treat the injury, which he picked up during extra-time.
Harry Kane, who scored the penalty in the second half that gave England the lead, was also seen clutching his back at times, while Dele Alli, who was substituted seemed to struggle with a thigh problem that he picked up during the match against Tunisia.
“It’s like a scene from MASH in the dressing room,” said after the game.
” Some just cramp, and some need just a little bit more assessment, so we’ll know more over the next 36 hours. ”
“I thought there were many, many fouls in the game and I don’t think we conceded anywhere near the number of our opponents.”
