Lahore: The Appellate Tribunal of Lahore High Court Tuesday permitted Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Mohammad Asif and Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leader Firdous Ashiq Awan to contest election by rejecting petitions filed against acceptance of their nomination papers.
The Appellate Tribunal dismissed a petition, filed against PMLN candidate from NA 73 Sialkot, declaring it non maintainable. The judgment that was reserved after hearing the arguments from lawyers of both sides was announced on Tuesday.
Khawaja Asif will compete Usman Dar of PTI from NA 73 Sialkot, in the upcoming elections.
The Appellate Tribunal meanwhile turned down another petition filed against the acceptance of nomination papers of Firdous Ashiq Awan . Justice Syed Shehbaz Rizvi while announcing the judgment on the petition, filed by a voter namely Latif, maintained that the Returning Officer had accepted the nomination papers of PTI candidate as per law.
The petitioner had taken the plea that Awan did not fill the column related to marriage and children in nomination papers , hence, her nomination papers be rejected.
