Dublin: Szie Bates and Maddy Green hammered hundreds as the New Zealand’s women’s team broke their own record for the highest ODI total in history.
The White Ferns raced away to 490/4 off their 50 overs in the first ODI against Ireland. They had posted 455/5 against Pakistan in January 1997.
Jess Watkin and Amelia Kerr blasted quick half-centuries to pile on the agony for Ireland in Dublin.
Bates smashed a 94-ball 151 while Green raced away to a 77-ball 121 as New Zealand women stormed past England’s 2016 world record of 444 against Pakistan.
New Zealand, up against Ireland in Dublin in the first ODI, won the toss and opted to bat. Louise Little and Gaby Lewis conceded 92 runs off 10 overs each while Cara Murray went for 119 off her 10 overs.
Bates and Watkin blasted away to 171 off 18.4 overs in a frenetic opening partnership before Bates added another 102 with Green for the second wicket.
